Series: YuGiOh the Abridged Series (YGOTAS)
Genre: Animation; Abridged Series
Original Creator(s): Katsuhiko Chiba (manga writer); Kunihisa Sugishima (animation director)
Abridged Series Idea Creator: LittleKuriboh
From theft to sex and even all the way to mugged and fight jokes, this abridged series is one of the few that will have it all in short three (3) to four (4) minute abridged episode. From one abridged series creator to the next, most may tend to do at least five (5) minutes of abridged version of an episode for any series, but LittleKurriboh took a little different direction by going with just three to four minutes from the start.
LittleKurriboh is one of the most well respected Abridged Series Makers in the Otaku Society. For those that don’t know fully what “otaku” is, it is simply defined as “someone who is obsessed with video games, cultures, animes and/or mangas” when, in reality, it’s really just someone who has great passion for something that ranges from culture to animes and mangas – Sometimes even as far as food. And when LittleKurriboh first started the Yu-Gi-Oh The Abridged Series project, he started off with just making straight forward abridged series from season one. Or at least season one that had been aired in America. What truly is season one that had been aired in Japan is known as “Season Zero” here in United States, and he had later on done Abridged Series for the infamous Season Zero of Yu-Gi-Oh as well.
It is also because LittleKuriboh is such a respected Abridged Series maker and coordinator for the series, he had been asked to come to anime conventions as guests and do panels to do Q and A with his fans along with viewings of his abridged series, which majority of his fans have been caught using the all too famous line of, “SCREW THE RULES, I HAVE GREEN HAIR!” whenever one of the characters, Seto Kaiba, shows up and says the very line. I actually even had the honor of meeting him for my nineteenth birthday at AnimeNEXT Convention that goes on down in Somerset, New Jersey, back in June of 2010, and it was very easy to see why a lot of great things about him had to be said by those that had encountered him in person. He as in person as an Abridged Series maker have gotten so much awareness of existence that those that recognize his face and manages to put his name LittleKurriboh to it are bound to ask for his autograph. Simply put, he’s as nearly famous as any other celebrity such as Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson of Harry Potter series and the all too well known author J.K. Rowling, also known as Robert Galbraith.
The way he took the Yu-Gi-Oh The Abridged Series was done in a brilliant way, and even though for those that are in college level and beyond may not be hooked from the first episode, those that start as late as high school and continue watching may end up being hooked for life. Giving even characters their own individual characters apart from the actual series itself was also another smart move that LittleKurriboh have made in the long run.
Yugi, your typical Japanese character that just happens to be a great duelist.
Yami, the ancient pharoh spirit that happens to look like Yugi and with far deeper voice, and with great dark side as shown when watching the Season Zero YuGiOh The Abridged Series.
Joey, the typical “dumb blonde” American with Brooklyn accent.
Treston, the weird kid that can also pass as the dumb blonde with a voice of a character that everyone comes and learns to hate – Barney the Purple Dinosaur (how much more creepier will it be to hear Barney the Purple Dinosaur’s voice say, “You have activated my trap card!” followed by his creepy, weird laughter? /insert shudder here).
Tea, the typical female character that appears to be a cheerleader type of a slut along down the road later on in the series but also portrays a thief at the beginning.
Seto Kaiba, the bratty teenager that everyone hates, and more so since he’s a rich snob that every show seems to need at least one of.
And, finally, Yugi’s grandfather, who portrays as the old pervert. And not just any pervert, but pedophilic type.
Even the smallest of things that LittleKurriboh has to offer, such as puberty jokes and commentaries as certain and very specific characters on various anime music videos that others have made from time and time again, are what has kept his audience members’ attention. And even though there does have a great demand for great sense of humor to be involved for the audience to continued to be captivated from beginning to the end all the while trying to grow the audience members in numbers, reputation also needs to hold, which LittleKurriboh has done far exceedingly well. And it can only be hoped that for the sake of YGOTAS series, he continues to hold up his reputation as one of the greatest Abridged Series Makers.
