Movie: My Soul to Take

Genre: Thriller

Now I lay me down to sleep,

I pray the Lord my soul to keep,

If I shall die before I wake,

I pray the Lord my soul to take.

Welcome to another round of Movie Monday, and the second spotlight of the week goes to My Soul to Take!

In Christian families, depending from parent to parent and from family to family, the parents may have their kids pray, “Now I lay me down to sleep,” prayer. But when thinking about it, isn’t it actually a bit of a creepy of a prayer to have the kids pray? After all, it’s a prayer of death rather than asking for being able to dream nice and sweet dreams.

With the movie My Soul to Take, it starts off with Abel Plenkov, a man with schizophrenia. He’s revealed to be a married man with one daughter, Fang, and another child to be on its way, and the only one to know of his schizophrenia is his psychiatrist, who have recommended he tell his wife so that she is ready to defend herself and the kids whenever the more dangerous parts of him comes forth. However, he ends up having a blackout and when he gains consciousness once more, Abel begins to turn to look at his wife to tell her, only to discover one of his other personalities had already stabbed her to death. The police comes and puts Abel down as the ambulance rushes his deceased wife to the hospital to at least try and get the unborn child out to at least try and save the child in time while of the officers tries to save Fang. Even through a few gunshots, Abel somehow manages to survive and as he’s being transferred in an ambulance, he wakes and attacks the medics and the officers around him before he runs away, which then is believed he died somewhere in the water under a bridge.

That very day, total of seven kids are born, and one of those kids is Abel’s very own son that was in an unborn state in his deceased mother’s body when one of Abel’s personalities had stabbed her to death. Sixteen years later, the kids all gather and those seven children that are believed to have been born with seven different personalities of Abel Plenkov are praised in their own different ways. And every year, the kids have gathered to celebrate the death of Abel in their own way as the kids, one by one, have to “kill” Abel when a dummy is brought out from either the water or from deep within the forest.

What the kids come to discover that very night is that Abel Plenkov himself just may be back and killing each of those seven kids one by one. But the question is if whether it’s Abel Plenkov himself that has come back to take his revenge on society for trying to keep him locked away?

Or has his spirit found a way to come back to take his revenge through means of possessing someone else? And if it’s through possession, exactly who is he using to get his revenge?

If you want to know what will happen, watch to find out!
