Movie: Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark

Genre: Thriller

Welcome to Movie Monday! For this week, I’ll be looking into and closing the Movie Monday only two movies.

Today’s first spotlight goes to Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark!

Most kids, when going to sleep, are usually terrified of the dark. And it’s because of that the nightlight has been made for so that the kids will have some sort of light in the room to be able to give the kids some sense of comfort in order to go to sleep. And for parents, it’s always having to tell those terrified children, “Don’t be afraid of the dark,” because, “There is no monster under the bed!” or “There’s nothing to be afraid of!”

Question is this – Is there REALLY no monsters under the bed? And is there REALLY nothing to be afraid of?

In Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark, a young girl, Sally Hurst, moves in with her father for her parents have gotten divorced. What she believes is that her stay with her father is only temporary for her mother hasn’t told her what was truly happening while her father seems rather irritated that his ex-wife hasn’t taken the responsibility of telling Sally that her own mother doesn’t want her. And for Sally, one of the reasons she doesn’t want to stay with her father is because he is seeing a new woman, Kim, meaning there is a chance that he will get remarried to a woman that is not her own mother.

The one thing that Sally comes to discover during her exploration is a basement when she falls onto a glass window that can be seen down into the basement area. The only reason why that one room has not been discovered was due to the fact that the door to it has been completely boarded up with the board making it seem as if it were actually part of the house. When the wall comes down and the door to the basement is unlocked, however, the groundskeeper, Mr. Harris, warns her, her father and Kim not to go down there due to incidents that happened down there that involved death. And it’s because he has worked for the previous owner of the house and even knowing exactly what the cause of the owner’s death was, Mr. Harris gives the three new residents of the house the warning in hopes of saving their lives.

What Sally slowly comes to discover that the secret the house holds is that there are small and rather dangerous creatures living in the house that wants the teeth of the children to devour. And if they can’t get their hands on the children’s teeth, it’ll be the humans as a whole that they’ll devour. And when horrible things begin to happen around the house, the only one to listen to Sally when she tries to explain to defend herself when accused is not her father but rather Kim. And Kim even tries to help and make Sally’s father see the truth for what it is.

Will Sally, her father and Kim get out of the house in time?

Or will they all die from Sally’s father being far too stubborn to listen to what his own child and his girlfriend, Kim, has to try and tell him to actually leave the house he spent all his money on buying?
