Movie: Wreck It Ralph

Genre: Animation

Movie Monday, and the second spotlight of the day is Wreck It Ralph!

Have you ever been to an arcade recently?

How about back in the 90’s alone?

If you’ve gone to an arcade back in the 90’s, I’m sure you remember all those times when you would have to carry around change in your pocket just to play a game rather than having to pay money for a card, and having to swipe it at whatever game you wanted to play.

But do you remember all those classical games you used to see back in the day? Like Pac Man? How about Tekken? And Street Fighter?

With Wreck It Ralph, we get to go back into those good old days and see those type of games come back to life. But it’s not really in the point of view of the people, such as kids, that play the game. Nor is it in point of view of the arcade owner. Instead, it’s in a point of view of the characters in the video games of the arcade, and one of the main views that we see it in is a character by the name of Ralph in his own game of Wreck It Ralph. In his own game, Ralph is seen as the bad guy, and those that play the game plays it as Felix, who is also known as Fix It Felix. Whatever Ralph wrecks, Felix fixes.

One day, Ralph comes to despise his job of being a bad guy, and eventually wants to win a medal for being a hero. And he comes to the epiphany that he wants a medal for being a hero at a meeting for the bad guys. What ends up happening by the end of the meeting is that he decides to leave Wreck It Ralph game due to being hated by his own colleagues of the game, and never being invited to any of the parties that they throw, which brings his colleagues to realize that they need him because without him, there is no more game. And with there being no more game, they will be gone forever if not fleeing to the terminal where all the characters of all the games are able to get together to talk and hang out.

As Ralph tries to find a place where he truly feels like he belongs and feel as if he can be a hero, his colleagues of Wreck It Ralph game are in a hurry to find him before their game gets throw out into the streets for good with all the Wreck It Ralph game characters being out of their job for good. The question arises on whether or not Ralph’s colleagues of Wreck It Ralph game will be able to bring Ralph back to the game. More importantly, will Ralph be able to find happiness in another game and get a medal of heroes that he’s always wanted? Or will he run out of job as both a good guy and a bad a guy for good? And even if he does manage to find himself a medal of honor to call his own, in which game will he find it? And to what extent will he go to get one?
