Movie: Big Hero 6

Genre: Animation

Third posting of Movie Monday of the week!

This time, the final spotlight of the day goes to Big Hero 6 movie!

When the movie first starts, it may not seem like a big deal. Just an arena with two people fighting with their bots. And they call this type of event Bot Fighting – Something that is legal unless if gambling and betting money is involved. And the first Bot Fight is seen to be between Yama and someone that had challenged him, which, of course, Yama wins due to the type of robot that he has created. Hiro (pronounced like ‘Hero’) then challenges him when no one else will, and ends up losing the bet with the small amount of money that he has. Of course, he re-challenges Yama right after as Hiro takes out a huge wad of money rolled up, and uses the same robot he had used to lose. To everyone’s surprise, Hiro’s creation in his robot is to say the least stronger than it appears – Again, never judge a book by its cover. Just because a robot looks weak does not mean that it is, which Hiro has come to prove when he hustled Yama in the Bot Fighting rematch.

Even in this futuristic city of San Fransokyo, a 14 year old genius like Hiro Hamada exists. Hiro had graduated from even high school at age of 13, and being as smart as he is, he doesn’t see the point of having to go to college when he can just earn quick easy money through Bot Fighting. His older brother, Tadashi, has a thing for research and tech just as much as Hiro has a brain to be able to comprehend advanced technologies, and to Tadashi, Hiro having to waste his talents away and at risk of being sent to jail, even prison, for betting on Bot Fighting isn’t a good move. So, to change Hiro’s mind and even after having to be dragged off to police station together after Tadashi gets his brother away from having a mob beat him down, Tadashi takes Hiro to his (Tadashi’s) university and show Hiro around the lab that Tadashi is working in. There, Hiro meets four others that happens to be friends with Tadashi by the names (or nicknames, rather) of GoGo, Wasabi, Honey Lemon, and Fred.

GoGo designs wheels since she’s always on the go and looking for faster speed at lighter weight of the wheels.

Wasabi is a neat freak, most likely with an OCD, but he is quite the smart guy when it comes to creating technology that involves lasers to cut through just about anything and everything – Including steel.

Honey Lemon is as sweet as honey, but she has fire within her to get her going with her optimism, and she’s able to create things out of carbon to make just about anything get stuck within it, like glue, and colors it bright with almost any and all colors just like her bright personality.

Fred is a mascot by day and a mascot by night, but he is not a student of the school that the four scientific students attends – Instead, he is more like a person who encourages them to try and cheer them on to do something great with their lives with all their inventions while still managing to become their friends.

Tadashi, in his own little lab in the back of the room that he and his classmates share, has been working on a personal healthcare provider that he calls Baymax. And it is when he brings Hiro in to try and change his mind with the lab in the school that Hiro meets Baymax for the first time. And it is because of the people that Hiro meets through this experience that he suddenly becomes determined to apply for and attend this school, and would do just about anything to get into the very university that his brother attends. Hiro does ultimately meet an obstacle where he has trouble coming up with a new project to show to say he can offer the school something great, but after his brother flips him upside down and starts hopping around the room that Tadashi takes a look at his bot, which brings him to come up with a new idea. Using the same technology that he used to create his bot for Bot Fighting, he makes thousands upon thousands of nano versions of it, and even creates a headband to control it all with just his mind. The school becomes impressed with his work and accepts Hiro into the school.

Just as Hiro, Tadashi, and Tadashi’s four friends are about to head on over to Hiro and Tadashi’s aunt’s café, an accident occurs that ultimately leads to Tadashi’s death from trying to save one of the school’s professors. But there is something more to it than just an accident of a building in the school blowing up, and Hiro soon becomes determined to find out why his brother died and who may or may not have been the cause of Tadashi’s death. GoGo, Wasabi, Honey Lemon, and Fred are all determined to do just about anything to help Hiro out in the mystery case, but will the group be able to find the culprit? Or is it just to die out in mystery along with the accident?
