Movie: 21 Jump Street

Genre: Action

Another round of Movie Monday!

The second spotlight of the day goes to 21 Jump Street!

Have you ever wondered where all the undercover cops go?

Well, not being a cop myself, I can’t say that I know. But 21 Jump Street does give an idea of what may go around to a certain degree when two very unlikely characters team up. One is all muscles and the other is all brains, and in high school, they didn’t get along. It’s when they take their test for the Police Academy that the two joins forces so that the brains can pass the fitness test while the muscles can pass the written test.

The two believes that they will be doing all sorts of fun investigative works to bust out criminals. What ends up happening? They get assigned to patrolling parks. Not on foot. Not in police cars. But rather on bicycles. And I’m not talking about vroom vroom, startup your engine type of bicycles. No. I’m talking pedal with your feet type of bicycles, which usually is a laughable thing when trying to figure out how the police is supposed to arrest someone on a bike.

The duo manages to find a gang of bikers that are smoking weed, and this group is not just any group. This group that they encounter in the park that they’re patrolling is a group that the police department has been trying to track down and arrest for a long while, and by having to arrest this group, the duo believes that they will get promoted. Out of the dumb luck that they manage to find, they do manage to arrest the gang. Problem arises when they forget to read the rights when arresting the gang that the gang has to be released by force.

Instead of firing the team, the two are given the chance to redeem themselves by being placed in a program that’s going through an attempt to be revived called Jump Street. The location that the two are sent to is 21 Jump Street, a small Korean Christian church that’s been abandoned, and from there, they are assigned to attend high school all over again so that they may be able to find a synthetic drug under the name HFS. When the two begin to infiltrate the dealers and try to find out who the supplier is, the two begin to find trouble being able to agree on everything that the two does, and begins to unable to meet eye to eye. And the more the two hangs out with two completely different groups of people, the further they seem to become from one another and their friendship slowly starting to crumble.

The question is if whether or not the duo will survive through another year of high school as friends or will their relationship crumble back down to nothing just like there was nothing to begin with when they were back in high school? Or will they succeed in sticking together as they find out who the dealers of the drugs are as a team?
