Welcome to another day of TV Tuesday!
For today, let’s take another comic hero that everyone knows well as the Flash!
The man behind the mask is a forensic scientist by the name of Barry Allen, and in the first episode of The Flash, it’s revealed how Barry loses both of his parents – One to murder by red and yellow speeding lights, and another sent to jail for a murder committed by one of the two speeding lights. And it goes on with Barry having to move in with his school friend, who also happens to be his crush, and her father. For years, Barry has collected whatever information he can get his hands on when it comes to the case of his mother’s murder to find the real murderer so that justice that his father that Barry’s father actually deserves is brought into light along with his innocence.
When Barry is all grown up, the show reveals that he works under his crush’s father, Detective Joe West, as the forensic scientist. And on one faithful night when something goes terribly wrong at S.T.A.R. Labs, which is under the supervision of the one man, a scientist, that Barry admires and built up from ground up by that very man, Dr. Harrison Wells, something unimaginable and unexplainable happens to Barry. And not even just Barry, but several people throughout the city that S.T.A.R Labs is located in – Central City, the city where Barry lives and works in over in the Central City Police Station. Barry gets struck by lightening, and the unexplainable is that he is somehow miraculously alive. When he won’t wake, Dr. Wells comes into the hospital where Barry is kept to offer help. Not just to wake Barry up, but also to save his life. And Dr. Wells manages to keep his promise, but what is discovered upon Barry’s awakening is that he has super speed, which leads Barry into using his powers to fight crime and find others that are like him that has been affected in different ways from the incident at the lab. When he is even given a suit by one of the S.T.A.R Lab workers named Cisco, he hasn’t come to a decision on what alias name to go by until Barry’s crush, Iris West, posts blogs about him, referring to him as The Blur, without even realizing that the one going around stopping crimes is the one and only Barry himself. Later on, the name goes from The Blur to being known as The Flash when Cisco comes down to pointing out that Barry is as quick as a flash when there are people in need of help.
For superhero fans, it wouldn’t be surprising to say the least that when it comes to Barry’s suit, The Flash series has gotten it completely wrong. Why? Because it is said that Barry had originally made his own suit and never actually made for him. But does that make a difference when it comes down to the fact that The Flash series is a great show to watch? In my personal opinion – No, it does not. It doesn’t change the fact that it’s still a good, fun show to watch. After all, having to have the S.T.A.R Lab workers that have remained by Dr. Wells’ side only builds onto Barry’s character and who he becomes as a person with the trust he builds with them along with the friendships that forms.
Action.
Romance.
Laughter.
Friendships.
Trust.
Teamwork.
Did I mention ‘action’? Because action and romance takes a huge part of this series, and something that probably should not be left go unseen. The Flash is, in my own opinion, one of the best shows around and a defiant must watch. And this is coming from someone that may not be big on comic books, especially superheroes, but doesn’t mind all too much watching even movies of them no matter how boring some movies seem to feel as if it’s dragging on.
And if you want to know who it was that had killed Barry’s mother, start watching and see where trust and teamwork takes you in the series!
