Knock Out Saturday!
Hello, everyone! Welcome to Knock Out Saturday here on The Otaku World!
Today’s game spotlight goes to Pokémon series – A RP (Role Play) game that has been around since the early 1990’s!
Remember the days when Pokémon used to have only 150 Pokémon? Well, 151 if you counted Mew, but still 150 of them and 150 only in order to “be the very best that there ever was” and to “pass every test and training them is [the] cause” by capturing them all? Well, now, the latest game are X and Y versions of the game, which has been released in October of 2013, and the most recent games out are the remakes of Ruby and Sapphire under the names Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, which had been released November of 2014, along with the Pokémon Rumble World, which was released for free download for 3DS system in March or April of 2015.
In every game ever since Pokémon Red and Blue, even the special Yellow, versions, it has been all about starting out with very first Pokémon between Charmander, Bulbasaur and Squirtle, fire, grass and water type Pokémon, and going on a journey to battle against other trainers and even winning Gym battles. Eventually going into the Pokémon League to battle against the Elite Four to become the best that there ever was to become the Pokémon Champion of that region. Now, it’s more than just those original 151 Pokémon, but rather now over 600, perhaps even exceeding 700, to record onto the PokéDex, and with each new version coming out with more regions to explore, even more are to come with it if the Pokémon franchise television series are to continue.
There are even spin off games, such as Pokémon Ranger, Pokémon Rumble World, and Pokémon Mystery Dungeons. And how each of those spin offs take its course are slightly different from how other Pokémon games are normally played. In Pokémon Ranger, you play as a Ranger, but the downside to it is that you don’t get to capture Pokémon. But if you find a Pokémon that wants to be your partner, you can call them up at any given them using specific sign or symbol meant for them. As for the Pokémon Rumble World, you get to travel to various locations by going on a hot air balloon and have a chance at capturing Pokémon by beating them and if those defeated Pokémon turn into dolls. As for the Pokémon Mystery Dungeons, you are transformed into a Pokémon, earlier versions having to decide what you are by your gender and your personality while the newest one allows you to choose, and you have a partner that is also a Pokémon to be your teammate. With it, for every dungeon you visit for jobs or to explore, you have a chance at recruiting more Pokémon to join your Rescue Team.
Having to grow up with the series and the games, it may be hard for the PokéHolics to get away from it all, but if having to play RP games is what you’re into, then it’s a game to test out. How long each game takes to play all depends on how much time and dedication one decides to put into it.
The question is are you ready to be the next Pokémon Champion and willing to prove it by battling even your own friends?
