Movie: Guardians of the Galaxy

Genre: Action/Fantasy

Happy Movie Monday!

Before we transition full into action movies and into drama and comedy done by Will Smith, let’s take a look at a comic book based movie – Guardians of the Galaxy!

For those of you that don’t know, Guardians of the Galaxy comes from one of the two big time superhero comic book publishing companies called Marvel, who have published those like Iron Man, Hulk, and Captain America. The story starts off with Peter Quill when he’s a young boy, and he’s in the hospital as his mother lays in bed, dying. She, of course, ends up taking her last breath in front of him and unable to hold his hand as she asked him to do.

Heartbroken, Peter runs outside and begins to weep. And cue in a bright light in the sky and he gets taken out into space, and as he grows up in outer space, he becomes known as the thief that calls him Star Lord. For those of you that are fans of the Guardians of the Galaxy comic books, I wouldn’t know as well as you do if it’s two completely different personalities switching in and out between Peter and Star Lord, but in the movie, Peter is the one to say that he’s the one came up with the name for himself and is fully aware of his own self to be one person and one person only. He only had given himself the name Star Lord to make himself sound cooler than just by the name of Peter Quill.

He steals to try and make a living for himself, and whatever he steals, he sells to the dealer that offers him the highest amount of money. Of course, growing up, he’s always believed that he was fully human, only abducted just because the ones who had taken him in wanted to eat him to see what a human tastes like while the leader decided to spare him his life due to belief that he can serve a greater purpose than just as another meal.

When Peter steals something of great value, an orb, he gets intercepted by a group and barely manages to escape with the orb still in his possession. Of course, with the orb being of such great value, it’s not just Peter that wants it for himself for the money, but rather others that are also after the possession of it. An assassin by the name of Gamora has been sent out to kill Peter if necessary and to take back the orb so that those of her race may be able to obtain power that the orb possesses, and Gamora has gone all the way to the Nova Empire’s capital, Xandar, just to find him. In the meanwhile, Groot, a tree humanoid, and Rocket, a genetically engineered raccoon that can talk, spots Peter, only to realize how much money is wanted for his head. Groot and Rocket engage a fight with Gamora to try and claim Peter for the money, only for the Galactic Police to interfere and arrests all four of them.

The four soon partner up in the prison, and they are soon joined by Drax, one of the inmates that wants Gamora dead due to her relation to Ronan as Ronan’s adoptive daughter, but only after convincing him that if he wants to kill Ronan, Gamora may be the only way to directly get to him. The group of five work together to escape the prison that they are placed in, and even after the flee, the group decides to stick together since for each and every one of them, one special skills that he (or she in Gamora’s case) has to offer, the others don’t have.

Overtime, the group comes to realize that if they don’t work with each other, not only will their lives cease to exist in hands of Gamora’s adoptive family, but there will no longer be any place for anyone to reside in any longer. They have to make a decision to whether or not they will work together and defend the galaxy that they live in, or just give in and die without fighting.

If wanting to see life beyond Earth and what other forces may be out there beyond what we know, and even want some action and good fights, placed into your life, join the Guardians of the Galaxy in their quest to try and save the world, or die trying.
