Movie: Pursuit of Happyness

Genre: Drama/Biography

Another Movie Monday posting!

The second round’s spotlight goes to Pursuit of Happyness, another one of Will Smith’s movies!

In the movie title alone, the word “happiness” has been spelled incorrectly, and the purpose for that gets revealed in the movie as the character Will Smith portrays, Chris Gardner, and his son Chris Gardner, who is portrayed by Will Smith’s very own son by the name of Jaden Smith, walks down a street together side by side.

The movie Pursuit of Happyness in itself is all based on a true story of Chris Gardner himself, and Chris Gardner appears in flesh at the end of the movie as he and Will Smith walks past each other at the end of the movie. And the story goes that Chris Gardner was a salesman of portable bone-density scanners, which at the time he thought would go well. Over the years, it has been proven that the hospitals don’t need it due to the equipment merely just taking up space and just not worth lugging around when the hospital already has all the equipment needed and necessary, including the more suitable version of the bone-density scanner that Mr. Gardner is trying to sell. And because it is near impossible to actually make a living, Mr. Gardner ends up getting divorced, and he becomes tired of his now ex-wife trying to keep him separated from his son that he begins to live in the streets, including having to sleep in the public bathrooms of the train stations, just to get by with living as if nothing is wrong.

In an attempt to even try and make a better living for not just himself but for the sake of his son, Mr. Gardner eventually begins to study to take an exam to work in the Wall Street as a broker. Even with a fairly good grade, it’s near impossible to actually land a job that whoever wants to get a job needs to try as hard as they can to get as perfect of a score as they can. He will even go at whatever extent that he must to try and land a job for the sake of his son to give his kid the life that Mr. Gardner feels he truly deserves for no child should be living in the streets.

Follow the story of Chris Gardner in his journey to succeed in becoming a broker in the Wall Street! It’s a truly touching story to watch.
