TV Tuesday time, and today’s feature – Vampire Diaries!
When the series first start, it’s almost as exactly as it sounds. It starts out with narration by two characters, Elena Gilbert and Stephan Salvator, and it’s in a form of them having to write in a journal. And what they write are silently done, which is shown on the television screen, but what the audience hears is the two characters having to read aloud, in their minds of course, of what they are writing. And just as the title of the series implies, vampires do exist in this supernatural world. And just as the vampires exist in the town called Mystic Falls, there are other secrets to this town that outsiders may not be aware of. Such as the founding fathers of the town, and with the founding fathers and their families, there comes secrets and knowledge limited to just the founding families and the ones that are in the founding families’ bloodlines.
As the viewer, what you will find out is that even within the organization of the founding families comes secrets that some of them keep for themselves. However, that is a secret for you to find out later on down the road while going through lives of the main and supporting characters of the Mystic Falls. Of course, the only downside to it all is that the story first begins in high school setting where Elena Gilbert and her friends are supposed to be Seniors of Mystic Falls High. One day came along Stephen Salvator, a member of Salvator family that just happens to be one of the founding families of the town. But that’s not what the downside to the story is – The downside is that none of actors and actresses that are supposed to look like seventeen (17) and eighteen (18) year olds, they all look like they could be well into the late 20’s if not well into their 30’s as it is.
And even though this series is classified to be a fantasy and science fiction type of story, even crossing over onto supernatural considering vampires take big part to the series, the one thing that makes this stand out the most from shows like Supernatural and the Teen Wolf is that this series is limited to four and four races only, and that includes the human race and the vampire race. And how they go on and about with the series to bring even some myths about the vampires to life, even as far as allowing loopholes for a vampire’s survival as well as how a human is able to turn into one, the show makes certain aspect of the story and tales of Mystic Falls an interesting one. To put a cherry on top, to certain extent, this story also is a slice of life type of genre, but only in the sense of having to go through life if having to take out the factors of any race that’s not human but related to humans in one way or form.
Romance, fantasy, and even some bloody and very gory fights. If those aren’t good enough, then let’s try even very complicated love triangles that involves even Stephan’s quote-on-quote evil brother, Damon Salvator. Is even someone that’s marked as bad from the start be able to find love? Or are the villains forever marked to be forever alone? You’ll have to watch to find out for yourself.
