Movie: Yes Man

Genre: Comedy

Welcome to the third Movie Monday of the week!

The final spotlight of the day goes to Yes Man, another movie about a pessimistic man.

Carl Allen (Jim Carrey) is a bank loaner, and he is the type of a man that just loathes doing his job. He is also the kind of a man that doesn’t know the meaning of, “Yes,” and always will say, “No.” The one time he gets caught off guard when he’s at a video store to rent a movie to watch while staying in at home, and the moment he gets caught off guard is when one of his friends calls him up and asks him to come hang out because he knows that Carl is at a video store due to standing jut right outside.

With having no wiggle room, Carl agrees to go out and meet with his friends at a bar, and it’s there where he hears about a convention of a man, Terrence Bundley, that gives a talk to the audience about being able to open up and say, “Yes!” Because of how Carl is and him having to stand out so much compared to the others in the audience with always being so negative, Terrence calls Carl up onto the stage and challenges him to say, “Yes,” to every opportunity that opens itself up to him. He’s very hesitant at first, but agrees to give it a shot.

From having to give money for gas to a complete stranger and even giving her a ride home, and even to ranging from sky diving lessons to Korean lessons, Carl explores the world in ways he has never had before. When it comes to even loans whenever people come in for loans, he can’t bring himself to deny them the loan due to recalling the promise he had made. And even though all the loans he had given away are making a huge profit for the bank in the end due to all the people that Carl had given loans out to are succeeding rather greatly, it begins to drive him nuts because he wants to be able to say, “No,” time and time again.

How many more times will have to say, ‘Yes,’ before he encounters Terrence to ask the man to let him back out of the deal of agreeing into doing things for rest of his life? Or is he doomed to be forbidden from saying, ‘No,’ forever? Watch and find out! This is one Jim Carrey comedy that you do not want to miss out on!
