Movie: Bruce Almighty

Genre: Comedy/Drama/Fantasy

Welcome to another round of Movie Monday!

Have you ever wondered what it would be it would be like if you could do anything? And I mean ANYTHING? Like God? Have all the power you could possibly imagine in just tip of your fingers?

Well, Bruce had that very chance to be like God.

In Bruce Almighty, Bruce Nolan is a television field reporter for Eyewiness News at WKBW-TV in Buffalo, New York. Every story he covers are some of the most ridiculous and least fascinating stories, but he continues to stay working on the field stories because it’s his dream to become an anchorman one day. When the day for a promotion to be given comes, it passes right on over Bruce and goes right on over to Evan Baxter, and a speech that Bruce had ready, Evan stole.

When Bruce even ends up losing his job, he receives a message that directs him to an abandoned warehouse, where he ends up meeting God in person face-to-face, and God offers Bruce all his powers. However, the condition comes as that he must make his decisions wisely on where and how to use God’s powers, and that Bruce is not allowed to tell anyone of having God’s power. Of course, there are several other rules that Bruce is given, but, being a little overly excited about his newly found power granted upon him, Bruce does whatever it takes to impress several, if not all, around him and even uses his powers to train his dog in actually using the toilet when needing to go to the bathroom. And when I say “training his dog to use the toilet,” I mean, “training his dog to use the toilet” and “to flush the toilet on own after use”.

To make it worse, Bruce eventually ends up using his powers given to him by God to even make Evan a fool of himself on national television just so that Evan can get himself fired from job, allowing the promotion as an anchorman be given to Bruce as he always wanted. So, of course, having to have all the powers to do just about anything at any time at own personal will and having every single prayer answered, more so due to the fact that God’s power is in your own hands just the way it was in Bruce’s, it may be a dream come true.

But when going further into the movie, even Bruce comes to a point where he’s at the point of possibly losing his girlfriend for good, and not being able to convince her otherwise in terms of staying with him due to her own freewill that she has. And freewill of a person isn’t exactly something that can be persuaded even by the power of God.

If there has ever been a time when you wanted to be just like God and have all the power in the world to do just about anything, and if you wanted a good laugh and a good family movie to sit and watch with your own family, Bruce Almighty may be the way to go.
